Elmo 2nd Birthday Party

This weekend we celebrated my little peanut's 2nd birthday with some family and friends.  Since she is in LOVE with Elmo, picking a theme was a no-brainer.

I didn't get a chance to take very many pictures, but here are a few of my favorites!

The dessert table...

 The happy birthday banner...

Blowing out her candle....

I made this and left it out at the party for the guests to sign...

For any Elmo fans out there, I will post some tutorials soon too!!

Letter of the week - D

Turing two and organizing a party took a bit of time away from our letter of the week plans...

We still managed to fit in a few things, but not as much as I hoped for...oh well, weeks like this happen, right?

We hung up our letter D and sign on our easel.  She placed the magnet D on the sheet on her own..

I sadly did not get a chance to change out our felt board - so the caterpillar, from last week, remained (which my little peanut did not get tired of playing with)...

We managed to get in a few "D" crafts - inspired by pinterest of course!

We made a hand-print duck.

I just love this little guy...he would make for a great Easter card...

We also painted the letter "D" (I wanted to make this into a dinosaur, but just ran out of time).

Like usual, we did a good amount of coloring for our "D" book.

This week, I did something new.  The idea was inspired by Carissa over at 1+1+1=1.  I created a "Letter of the week book" for my little peanut to use with dry erasers.  The first two pages I wrote her first and last name and placed them in sheet protectors.  Then I printed out a few "D" pages and placed them in sheet protectors.  She went to this book OFTEN!  She loves to color with the dry erase markers and then use the eraser (I got both at staples) to wipe the page clean so that she can do it again.  Her name was especially a big hit.  My hope is that it helps her to learn how to write her name.

Letter of the week - C

The letter of the week was "C"...obviously one of my favorite letters as my name begins with "C"!  My little peanut is 23 months old.

We started the week by hanging up our letter of the week sign and finding the magnetic "C".

This week our felt board was a caterpillar.

I cut out all the circles using a cup - same technique I did for our Christmas tree here.  I did the antenna using brown felt - I started with a "V" and then cut out two circles on the top.

It was another big hit at our house this week!

We ended up doing three "C" crafts.  After all the cute things I found on Pinterest, I just had so many ideas and couldn't narrow it down!

The first thing we did was the Cupcake Craft that I described here.

We also did two different caterpillar crafts.

The first one was using clothespins (I have so many of these; so this was a welcomed craft).  We made three and gave one to each of the grandparents.

For the other caterpillar craft, we ended up making it into a card version so that we could send one down to my little peanuts great-grandparents in Florida (Nan and Pop if you are reading this, it is on it's way:) ).

We grabbed our red and green paint and a brush.

I had to paint her finger tip for every three or four dots we did.

I added eyes and legs after the paint dried.  I thought it came out real cute!  I especially love that it captures her fingerprint as of this point in time.  Sometimes I want to freeze time and this kinda allows that:)

Of course we also colored ALOT more this week - I even taped one of the pictures on our door - she really seemed to enjoy that!

Her "C" book was a big hit as usual.  She would ask to take it out almost every day and flip thru the pages completed thus far.  She would name all of the things that we had previously colored and even learned how to spell "Cat".

C week was alot of fun even thou we were a little under the weather for part of it:(

Stay tuned...next week will include more fun, but we will be onto D!

Letter C Cupcake Craft

Before I get started...did you know that Picnik is closing as of April 19th?!?!?!  AHHH!!  I am so sad!!!  When I got the email last night I literally said "WHAT?!" out-loud!

Sorry I just had to vent!

Onto our Letter "C" crafts...and, yes, I am going to use picnik to edit my photos until the bitter end:)

I used Pinterest to come up with some good craft ideas, but the one I am going to share with you hear, I came up with myself.

Since it will soon be little peanuts 2nd birthday, I decided we should make a cupcake!  She had a lot of fun during the process, and decided to sing to herself as she was painting...haha!

Here is what we did.

We took a few colors (that my little peanut chose) and put them in a paper plate with Q-tips for brushes.  She was having alot of fun putting each of the colors on the paper...

...but I quickly realized that it was a bit messy and ran to get an old shirt of daddy's to put over her cute  outfit:)  This saved her clothes by the end!!

Before the paint completely dried, we sprinkled some glitter (as sprinkles) on the paper.

Next I flipped over a white paper plate and glued down the "base" of the cupcake - which is just brown construction paper I cut out free hand.

Lastly, I cut out the "top" of the cupcake from the white paper my little peanut painted earlier in the day and glued it to the top of the plate.  Don't forget the cherry on top:)

Letter of the week - B

This week we continued our letter of the week and focused on letter "B" - my little peanut is 23 months.

We hung up our letter of the week sign and added the magnetic "B" below.

She also insisted on hanging up her finished "B" picture.

Once again we did a TON of coloring for our binder that I explained in more detail here.  My little peanut really enjoys coloring!

We dug thru all of our toys to find anything that started with the letter "B".  Here are two examples of what we found - a bowl and banana.  We then took our alphabet blocks and spelled out the word.  I would ask her for the letters and she would find them in the pile and hand them to me.  After the word was complete, we would spell it together.

We did two bee crafts that I talked about here.

Our felt board this week consisted of the three bears - mama bear, papa bear and baby bear.  My little peanut especially LOVED adding the bows!

We also made a butterfly complete with googly eyes, a popsicle stick and a pipe cleaner antenna.

Don't forget to check out my original post where I have the links to some sites that where I got ideas and/or print outs for our binder.
