Learning our Colors - Toddler Activity

It rained today...ALOT! So what's a mama to do with a toddler? Make up another game of course:)

My little one knows her colors already, but I want to move on to some basic spelling.

I gathered some popsicle sticks and construction paper in different colors. I wrote different colors on each of the sticks (in their respective colors).

As I wrote on the sticks, my little one placed it on the appropriate color.

Next I made a little "house" for the sticks. By folding the paper a few times and using masking tape on the edges.

I asked her to read off the color on the stick and then spell it before she put the stick in it's "house".

She had a great time and I snuck in a way to learn how to spell the colors:)

Another Toddler Game

About a month ago I shared a game I made up for my daughter {you can find it here}. Today I have another one for you:)

I bought my little one a cute little cupcake set for her play kitchen but I gave the cupcake pan a second use with this game!

{grumpy didn't like when I asked her to stop and say cheese}

I laid out 12 glass "rocks" {that was what she called them} and asked her to put one in each hole.

We also counted them, placed them into and out of the cup, put two in each hole - after each activity she would dump them out {I think her favorite part}. She LOVED it! It kept her busy for awhile!

She would play independently and also asked me to give her some directions, which she liked to follow! I wish she would listen when I asked her to do other things too, but this momma is not THAT lucky:)

Toddler Game

My little one gets excited whenever I tell her I have a fun, new game to play! So I tend to make things up ...often:)

Here is one I wanted to share with you.

She got an easel for Christmas (thanks Brooke and Ty) and I have definitely put it to good use!!

I drew two shapes and placed some of the magnetic alphabet letters in the middle of the two shapes.

Then I asked her to put one letter in each of the shapes.

For example, here I just said to her; "Put the F in the square and the B in the circle".

She was soooo good at following the directions and was extremely proud of herself.

And yes, she is wearing her tutu cause my little princess LOVES it!!

Letter of the week - L (part 2)

Our Letter L activities continued on this week as well (see part 1 here).

My little peanut is 27 months.

One of the first things we did was create out felt board - Lollipops!!

I hot glued pieces of felt to the back of the Popsicle sticks...worked like a charm!

My little one kept asking to do "arts and crafts with you (pointing to me)"...so we each made a lollipop by coloring paper plates. Here is how they turned out.

I also had some fun with her food. I cut her chicken into "L"'s...

We also did lots coloring, tracing and dot painting for our L book.

Mother's Day Cards

With Mother's Day about a week away my little peanut and I decided to make some cute cards for all of her grandmothers and great-grandmothers (there are 5 in total)!

How cute are they? And super simple to make!!

Although inspired by this pin, I changed it up a bit.

I traced my little ones hands on a pink piece of paper, freehanded the "pots" and used a little paint to make the stem. It was all glued onto a piece of cardstock.

They will all go out in the mail on Monday!! YAY!

Letter of the week - L

Our letter of the week? L!!

My little peanut is 27 months old!

We did ALOT of crafts this week. I kinda made the mistake of showing my little one my Letter L Pinterest Board. After that she told me (in which order) all of the L crafts that she wanted to make.

First up...our Ladybug craft.

My little one started out by painting a plate red.

We waited for that to dry and then I cut out black circles. I placed glue dots on the red plate and my little one added the black circles. She did a great job of only placing the black dots on the glue!

Lastly, I added an antenna made of a black pipe cleaner.

Next, we made a Tree with green leaves!

I freehanded a tree on brown construction paper.

My little one then glued this down to a blue piece of construction paper. I cut out a bunch of green leaves and she handled gluing them down on the tree.

This is what we ended with:)

Our last craft for this week was a cute little white lamb.

I finally got around to buying cotton balls! Believe it or not, they were hard to find!!

I put glue on the outside of a white paper plate and let her add on the cotton balls.

Once that dried, I added two googly eyes, a cute black nose and two black construction paper ears!

We will continue on next week with our Letter L week:) Stay tuned for more fun stuff!!

Letter of the week - K (Part 2)

My little peanut is 26 months old!

We finished up our K activities this week! I actually found it easier to spread everything out over the course of 2 weeks. It gave us more time to do some other fun activities (like cutting, playing outside and baking together); that I may actually continue that trend going forward.

We played more then usual with our kitchen set.

We got a new table this week from Ikea (thanks Mom!). For $20 bucks, I highly recommend it! It is perfect for doing art and crafts, eating meals and setting up for a tea party:)

Here we are on the table gluing letter K's.

This is our final product! I could not find too many "K" words/items in the magazines I had around the house. So instead I cut some out of paper and my little one colored them!

Our felt board this week consisted of 5 kites and 5 pieces of yarn (which also sticks to felt in case you were wondering)!

She loved it and just got annoyed placing the yarn on the kites. But I think it was good for her fine motor skills...

I also added a piece of contact paper (sticky side out) onto our easel. I then cut out some K's from construction paper and had my little one add them to the easel. She really liked doing this a few weeks ago and was excited I did this again for her!

I also made a big "K" on a piece of paper for her to color...

...but she preferred to tape it to the window and color that way:)

That pretty much sums up our second K week! Hope everyone has a great week!!

Fun with Stickers!!

My little one LOVES stickers!! She cannot get enough!

One day while I came up with this idea and she literally sat there for a good 30 minutes!

I took two big sheets of white paper and taped them to our wood floors (if you only have carpet - I have also done this by taping paper to our glass doors).

I drew a few things...her name, some shapes, etc.

I then gave her a sheet of stickers to do with as she pleased.
