Jenny from The NY Melrose Family shared a Sandbox her and her hubby made for their daughter.  I was so impressed  at how great it turned out!  With the hot NY summer weather upon us, I am sure they are going to enjoy it!!

With school coming to an end, this Personalized Melted Crayon Art, shared by Love and Laundry really caught my eye!  I love it and I think that a teacher would love to display it in her classroom too!

Last Minute Memorial Day Toddler Dress

As I mentioned earlier in the week, our town has a Memorial Day Parade - the local Girl and Boy scouts, baseball teams, veterans and volunteer fire department all march thru our town.  Since both my dad and father-in-law are volunteer firefighters, we usually always plan on cheering them on.  My little one has gotten (finally) to the age where she enjoys it!

Sunday night rolled around and I realized that I didn't have anything "red, white and blue" for my little one to wear!!  I was running in a 5K the next morning, but I just started sewing anyways:)

This is what I ended up with.

Very last minute, so unfortunately I did not take pictures along the way.

But I started with a tiny stained, white t-shirt; a white sheet, and red and blue fabric that I happen to have enough material.

I love the back!!

I hope that she can wear it again in a few weeks for the fourth of July:)  That way I can get a cute shot of her WEARING the dress!!!!!  I hate it when I leave my camera at home...grr!

May Bloglovin' Blog Hop!

Photobucket

I am super excited to be co-hosting a Bloglovin' Blog Hop with Jenny from The NY Melrose Family, Amy from While Wearing Heels, Jenny from Modern Modest Beauty and Pamela from Sew Much Class for the month of May.

What's Bloglovin' you ask?  Well, only the greatest way to keep track of the blogs that you love.  With the discontinuation of Google Friends Connect, I decided that I needed to find another way to keep up with all of my favorite blogs that are not hosted by blogger.  I signed up for Linky Followers and I've had great success with gaining new followers, but I’m finding I don’t get any traffic to my site from Linky.  I also do not enjoy reading my favorite blogs from there.  I stumbled upon Bloglovin' and I am in love!  It is very similar to Google Reader, in that you can see the beginning of the post and the first picture attached to the post.  Plus, Bloglovin' automatically updates your posts, unlike Linky Followers, which you have to manually update each time you write a new post.  I don't know about you, but I just don't have the time to do that every time.  Another added bonus is there is a Bloglovin' application for IPhone and Android devices.  Woohoo!  Like I don't spend enough time reading blogs.  Now it's a simple touch.  Love it!

***These are the complete instructions for sign up, so skip to the rules if you already have Bloglovin'***
In order to participate in this hop you need to sign up for Bloglovin’.  Go to Bloglovin'.   Hit the green sign up button in the right hand corner.  Next enter an email address and create your password.  You will get a confirmation eamil that you will need to follow a link back to Bloglovin' to continue the process.  Once you click on the link you will be brought to a page where it says to choose blogs to follow.  You don't need to do this.  Click next in the bottom right hand corner.  The next screen let’s you know about the mobile app so just click next again.  This screen will show that you are not following any blogs.  Click on Account in the upper right hand corner and toggle down to widget.  Choose the widget you want displayed on your page.  Put your url into the search query and it should pull up your site.  Click on your site and it will say display this icon.  The next page should bring you to a screen that has you display it into your layout.   Once you hit publish you’re done!  If you view your blog you should see the icon and now your followers can add you to their Bloglovin’ feed.  Seriously, so simple.  So let’s get to the blog hop.  This is a party so make sure to have some fun and mingle.

There’s only a couple of rules:
1.       Please follow your host – The NY Melrose Family
&
Your co-hosts Two Sasters, While Wearing Heels, Modern Modest Beauty and Sew Much Class.

2.      Add Bloglovin' to your blog.

3.      Post our button for the blog hop on your page to promote the fun.

If you're interested in cohosting next month send Jenny an email at russej10@gmail.com.  Alright, so let's have some fun and mingle!

Wordless Wednesday - Memorial Day Weekend

Things have been pretty crazy around here (sick child, long hours at work and a 9 month pregnant sister = ahh!!) - sorry for the lack of posts!

We did have a great Memorial Day weekend thou:)  I ran my second 5K on Monday, we watched both Grandpa and Pop march in our town's Memorial Day Parade (they are volunteer firefighters), got good use out of the BBQ and we spent as much time outside as one can with a 2 year old with an ear infection:(

Unfortunately, I left my camera home most of the weekend - but I caught my little one helping Grandpa cut the grass with my camera phone:)

Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and a huge THANK YOU to all those who have served for this country!!

Techy Tips - Link Within

Welcome back to Techy Tuesday!

If you have missed out on any posts, be sure to check them all out here!

Have you ever noticed at the bottom of our posts are three pictures?

We used a widget called Link Within to generate these.  It is very simple to implement.  Head over to their website and they will walk you through the set up process.

I actually did this fairly recently.  I am not sure what took me so long - which is why I wanted to point this out!!  It is something that I wished I had done sooner:)

Techy Tips - Limiting Posts on a Page

Can you believe it is Tuesday again??  That means it is time for another Techy Tip!!

Over the past couple of months I have had two bloggers explain how crazy their blogs have been acting. They both ironically had the same problem..and both problems were fixed by the same solution!!  Keep reading...I will explain:)

The problem:
Both bloggers explained that their sidebar wasn't always showing up on the side; sometimes it would appear on the bottom of the page.

The cause:
I researched this a bit and found that sometimes the content you are displaying in your posts, may be too much.

But...you don't need to start writing less in each post.

The solution:
Instead...head over to your settings and the posts and comments section.

Change the number of posts shown on the main page to 3 (or another smaller number then what you currently have).

Save.

This simple solution fixed both bloggers problem!

I hope you don't need to use this trick, but just in case...now you know!

Be sure to come back next Tuesday for another Techy Tip:)

TGIF #20 - Share what you did this week:)

It is almost the weekend and boy am I looking forward to it!  I am running in my first race of the season and we have tickets to a Yankee Game! YAY!

I had tried Spaghetti Squash once and really enjoyed it, but never got around to making it!  This recipe, shared by Addicted to Recipes looks so delicious that I cannot wait to try it!!

Something else I want to try...making my own Pillow Covers with this wonderful step by step tutorial shared by Vixen Made!!  My pillows have definitely seen better days and I would love to try making some my own covers instead of buying them at the store.  I just need to decide on which fabric to use....

Personalized Engagement Gift

A few weeks ago when my brother-in-law proposed to his girlfriend {YAY!!!}, I knew I wanted to find something cute for their engagement!  I searched around and ended up finding this on Etsy, which I used as my inspiration.

This is what I ended up with.

Want to make one yourself?  Here is what I did.

Supplies:
I bought these scrapbooking frames {not sure if that is the official name} and scrapbook paper at Michael's and already had a heart paper puncher.  I also used pages from one of my old textbooks that I was not able to sell online:)

Step 1: Cut background paper to size.  I used glitter scrapbook paper as my background.

Step 2:  Punch out various hearts.  I used three red hearts {scrapbook paper} for each of their names and the date they got engaged.  I needed an additional 9 hearts from my text book.  Note thou that you can change up the rows and columns depending on the size of your frame.

Step 3:  Add the hearts to the background paper.  I used photo dots {found in the scrapbooking section} since I had some leftover from my scrapbooking days...

Since that same week also happened to be my sisters anniversary...I made her one too:)

A big CONGRATS to Suze and Marco!!  Can't wait to have a SIL:)

Techy Tips on Tuesdays - Jump Break

We hope that you are enjoying our Techy Tips!

If you have missed any of them, you can go here to check it out!

This question came from a reader.  She wanted to know how to make only part of her post show up - the reader would then have the option to click on "Read More" to display the entire post.

While I personally do not typically utilize this, here is how you do it!

Step 1:  Write your post and determine where you would like to insert the "jump break" (the technical blogger term).

Step 2:  Place your cursor at that spot, and click on the icon highlighted in the picture below.

This is what your post will now look like:

Step 3:  Publish and admire:)  This is what your readers will now see.  They will need to click on "Read More" to see the full post.

Hope you found that useful!!  Enjoy your week and be sure to stop by again next Tuesday for another Techy Tip!!

Happy Mother's Day {and crafts}

Hope all the Mom's out there had a great day today!!!

We spent the day with family...mostly eating:)

Ironically enough, the letter we are working on this week is M {for Mommy:) }!!  Instead of sharing our crafts and other activities I thought I would share two Mother's Day crafts:)

My little one came home from school this week with a really cute package!!

She helped me open it and this is what I found...

Love.Love.Love!!!!

And this is what we made the grandmas!

I found plain black pot holders at Walmart and pink fabric paint.  I painted her hands and then wrote the year with the fabric paint.  I loved how it turned out:)

Lastly, each year the little peanut and I take a picture together.  I have it printed and placed into a Mother's Day photo album my hubby got me on my first Mother's Day!  I love this tradition.
